In 1992 and 1993, the Carinthian Regional Museum and the Institute for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia, Maribor Regional Office, conducted preventive archaeological research. They discovered a part of a Roman villa, which also included a structure for economic activity and the west wing of a public building. Between 1998 and 2002, the Carinthian Regional Museum continued their research using probes. This was done during the Mislinja research camp for younger people. The villa in Zgornje Dovže is the most researched countryside estate from the end of the 1st to the 2nd century AD in todays Koroška region.
